I have been taking photographs for about 40 years now, have worked breifly in the
industry, but never really made a career of it, although it has been my first love
as a past time.
I have owned many cameras, and been many places around the globe taking pictures
of the streets of London, of Mosques in Istanbul, of Dunes in Algeria, of Cathedrals
in Europe, of Volcanoes in Indonesia, of Gum trees in Australia, and yet I have never
made my 'love' work for me.
Recently thanks to some money left to me from my Fathers brother Bill, whom I
met only once (much to my sadness) I have changed my whole photographic face,
going from Nikon to Canon (EOS 20D), and going from film to digital, and with this
new 'face' I had planned to publish a book of pictures taken in New Zealand, called
'Pictures of Paradise'.
However I have to (again and again) confront my lack of commercial drive, and
know-how, I am just my own worst manager! The book is sitting in my computer, with
hundreds of hours of work put into it, but with no hope what so ever that it will
ever find its way into a bookshop, and with apparently no-one else that is able to
move this sort of thing really careing about it. It lies moldering in silicon space,
its colours, mere zeros and ones.
However, I realise that there is so much that I have yet to learn, and so I
decided to get my pictures into a public forum via the net, indeed via this website.
Every picture I process teachess me more about saturation, about exposure, about
colour, every picture draws more of myself into the end product, and my creative
demands become more satisfied all the time (even if my ego and my bank balance
still suffer).
This is my forum to convey in varying degrees of obscurity my frustrated 'love'.
This is my forum to try to convey what an incredibly special place we live in, and
when I say we, I don't just mean New Zealanders, I mean Humanity. We all live in
the same boat, we can't just say that our place is no good anymore and move over
to the green grass on the other side, that won't work anymore!
So if there is someone out there that feels there is something special in my
pictures, or that there is something important in my sincerety, and has a publishing
company that can print fine art books, please don't admire my work from afar ;)
And if you don't have a publishing company, but do feel moved by my work, don't
be a stranger, a little encouragement can make a whole heap of difference, not
everyone is a natural Entrepreuner, not everyone can see the grace of their own
talent. So, sit, take time, Absorb, and Feel what is here, then do that with
your World, it is also a Real Work of Art, if Only you would apreciate it! It
needs you AND you need it...
