This thumbnails title is What Lurks Within? What Lurks Within?

In some of these pictures of water I see many things and in this one I think I see a dragon breathing white flames out of it's nose (well, the side of its face really)! Probably just not enough sleep hehe.
Te Raekaihau (near Princess Bay).

This thumbnails title is Reflections.Reflections.

I like the way the blackness sort of encroaches on the light from both sides and in places actually joins, it is like life, with the wonderful light, complex and vivid in its joy and excitement, all the more intense because of the ever presence of the other side. Yet even in the darkness there is goings on, there is struggles and triumphs. Neither side expects to conquer the other, the eternal day to day match.
Otaihanga, north of Paraparam.

This thumbnails title is Pottery Charger by Darryl Robertson.Pottery Charger by Darryl Robertson.

I love the colour of this piece, it is very reminiscent of the New Zealand flag, and I guess it is encapsulating the artists view of Kiwi culture and fauna. It is very dreamlike to me and holds its significance in a certain haze of uncertainty paradoxically, like good art often does.

This thumbnails title is Crazed Vase.Crazed Vase.

A pot that a friend of mine bought at an auction recently with a tapestry by Gordon Crook in the background. I love the pot, the glaze is so thick and cracked up and yet it is so shiny and smooth, it looks like a road map of a city with no street names on it.
My place, Miramar, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Crazy Cranes.Crazy Cranes.

Cranes reflected in the 'wobbly' surfaces of a building in Wellington.
Wellington City.

This thumbnails title is Moody Clouds.Moody Clouds.

Looking towards the west the sunshine plays amongst the bands of clouds with its beautiful golden colours.
Miramar, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Shadow.Shadow.

Great light, on a summers late afternoon. Technically faulty, but artistically appealing is how I see it. I like the way the part of my shadow encroaching on the nearest flower changes the colour.
Miramar, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Flax Leaf.Flax Leaf.

There he is again, Carl my nephew. What, you can't see him? Hehe, this is more visual arcane incantations, but even more obscure. The colours are so warm!
My Place, Miramar, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is An Impression. An Impression.

I like this picture a lot, it sort of gives me an impression of the man, it is like an visual arcane incantation (that's an obscure allusion if I ever heard one). Well anyway maybe it just does it for me, but the whole picture is speaking to me in a language that I don't understand but one that makes me feel!
My Place, Miramar, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Plimmers Lane.Plimmers Lane.

John Plimmer. The man that inspired this statue was a business man originating from England (The History). I have long admired his statue with his faithful dog perpetually in mid scamper, perpetually gazing lovingly up at its master. :)
Plimmers Lane, Lambton Quay, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Plate of Prawns.Plate of Prawns.

Prawns apparently like warm water to grow in and Wairakei has a plentiful supply of used superheated water (cooled of course). It's a great co-operative venture growing the prawns in pools that are fed with water from the geothermal power station across the road. They were very nice eating as well!
Prawn Park, Wairakei.

This thumbnails title is Gold or God in the Water!Gold or God in the Water!

Looking so rich and mysterious, the rocks on the bottom of the small river flowing from Mt Ruapehu enchants me. Water always does that for me but I think this is exceptional, don't you?
Down the road from Mt Ruapehu.

This thumbnails title is Roller Girl in the Mirror.Roller Girl in the Mirror.

I can't remember how this came about, but I think it is in the wing mirror of my car, and it has taken on some interesting movement thing, I kind of like it :)
Lyall Bay, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Kelp Patterns.Kelp Patterns.

Every time the sea came back towards the shore, the kelp would make a new pattern, seemingly never the same but always complex, sometimes looking orderly and appealing to my sense of symmetry, and at other times chaotic, looking hopelessly entangled with itself.
Island Bay, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Never Thirsty Lion.Never Thirsty Lion.

Just next to the herb garden this lovely little fountain sits. It's not a great picture, but I think it gives the idea (perhaps I will return to get a better one), I think it is a wonderful little fountain, very un pretentious, and the colours are nice also.
Bot Gardens, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is House In A Flower.House In A Flower.

The creation of a friends mum (not the man in the doorway), I think it is kinda cute really. Go visit my friends site Pixieplots and this is some more of her mums creations here, she is quite an artist I think!

Driftwood in the sand, with leaning seagull. The seagull was about to fly away in fact.

Lovely colours in this, it seems to have a dynamic sort of an energy to it.

This thumbnails title is Not Long Now.Not Long Now.

Not long now. The sun is undoubtedly above the horizon by now, but obscured by the clouds in the east. They are often not appreciated when they turn a sunny day into an overcast one, but sometimes they can be very beautiful!
Entry to Port of Napier.

This thumbnails title is Natures Way.Natures Way.

Walking along Lyall Bay Beach I enjoyed looking at the surface of the sand where the sea as it came and went, left patterns and channels that then played with the late afternoon sunlight. There is something profound about the way something so simple can produce something so intricate and complex.
Lyall Bay Beach, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Plated Silk Thread.Plated Silk Thread.

Some silk thread that has been hanging on my wall for several years now, I bought it for a reason I'm sure, but what that reason was, I have absolutely no idea now hehe.

This thumbnails title is Little Plane, Big Sky.Little Plane, Big Sky.

Sometimes when you take a picture of one thing, you get a great picture of another thing! Although, perhaps I would not have been so interested in snapping this plane had it been in a plain sky.
Waikanae, Wellington.

Hanging Wind Chimes and flower pot, in the late afternoon sunshine.
Peka Peka, Kapiti Coast, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Wandering Lights.Wandering Lights.

My intention when originally while taking this picture was to capture the bright planet in the sky, but after making a few attempts, I decided it was more fun and more effective in the long run since my tripod was in the car, was to play. 25 seconds of slowly moving camera creates a whole new place.
Wellington Harbour Channel.

This thumbnails title is Watery Ripples.Watery Ripples.

The water looks almost oily, but I don't think Wellington harbour is that polluted (is it? (Just joking btw)).
Near Queens Wharf, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Kelp waves and the Water Ripples in the Currents.Kelp waves and the Water Ripples in the Currents.

Hopping between the jagged rocks around some bays in Wellington, there are beautiful sights to be seen. The sea was rushing through this gap in the rocks, then it would rush back again, endlessly, and the kelp seems to thrive on it.
West of Lyall Bay, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Light Shifts and Moves in the Ripples.Light Shifts and Moves in the Ripples.

Light is wonderful stuff, especially when you have something to play with it like a lens or water. It's making me thirsty, except it is salt water.
West of Lyall Bay, Wellington.

This thumbnails title is Shells In The Sand.Shells In The Sand.

A great variety of shellfish I see, ain't life wonderful :)
Te Arai Beach, Eryes Point, Mangawhai Heads.

This thumbnails title is Gumboots On A Bench.Gumboots On A Bench.

I guess the 'gumboot' got its fame from the days when they were digging up kauri gum in New Zealand to sell to the furniture polishers. Of course many of the people who were wearing them were Maoris' and immigrants who needed money to live, the salt of the earth types. Fitting that they should be sitting on a bench held together with No8 fencing wire!
Helena Bay, Whangarei.

This thumbnails title is Precious Devotion.Precious Devotion.

A moment to remember yesterday, and a moment to remember today and tomorrow.
Hauai Bay, Bay of Islands.

This thumbnails title is Transient Contrast.Transient Contrast.

Just a piece of Quartz, a leaf, and some sand, but this, I think, holds so much of its magic just under the surface. Like the little walls of sand where the last flow of sea began its ebb, and the gentle ripples in the sand, revealed by the dark and light shades, even the little black specks. It evokes a sadness in me somehow, perhaps because the leaf is soon parted from this composition, it is like a Japanese Haiku poem to me?
Oke Bay, Bay of Islands.
2:20 pm, Sun 14th Aug, 2005
This thumbnails title is Sun Dial.Sun Dial.

The mosaic is actually a map of the Bay of Islands. As you can see it needs sunshine to work and there was not that much direct sunshine so it was not very functional at the time, but quite nifty I thought.
Russell, Bay of Islands.

This thumbnails title is Real Sand.Real Sand.

Nice sand texture, great the way it all finds a level like it's nearly a fluid.
Matauri Bay Camping Ground.
9:39 am, Sat 13th Aug, 2005
This thumbnails title is Shells and Rocks.Shells and Rocks.

Shells and things by the caravan door. This was my day break picture, its a longish story, but the first picture of the day, on a fresh memory card, I got to see often during the day, so I tried to make it something enjoyable and maybe inspirational. This I came to see was full of colour and variety of shapes and concepts. Pictures can do that sometimes, they are in no way the two dimensional things that many would have them be.
Matauri Bay Camping Ground.

This thumbnails title is Still Not Exactly Sand (but closer).Still Not Exactly Sand (but closer).

Mostly we see sand as a universal thing, never really considering that it is made up of different things, in different places. This is shell sand :)
Possibly Cable Bay, SH10.

This thumbnails title is Not Exactly Sand. Not Exactly Sand.

Not all our beaches are like this, in fact this is a little unusual I would say.

This thumbnails title is Twisted Stump in the Water.Twisted Stump in the Water.

I love the wrinkles in the stump down by the waters surface, its like Elephants skin or natural carving. How long will it remain here to provide shelter and support for creatures?
Houhora Heads.

This thumbnails title is Dark and Moody Boulder.Dark and Moody Boulder.

I have no idea why this boulder is the colour it is. Perhaps it is some form of peat, or perhaps it is stained from something in the top soil under which it used to reside?
End of Te Paua Road, Parengarenga Harbour.

This thumbnails title is Shelobes Lair?Shelobes Lair?

This is both alluring and disturbing all at the same time. The curves, textures, and colours are wonderful natural art, but the spiders web and the black hole look worthy of care. The burnt end makes me wonder how natural it is.
Wairere Boulders, off the road to Kaikohe.
12:08 pm, Wed 10th Aug, 2005
This thumbnails title is Moss Covered Boulders of Wairere Boulders.Moss Covered Boulders of Wairere Boulders.

The Wairere Boulders are rather unique, they were formed by a layer of Basalt lava having the clay beneath eroded away by the Wairere river, causing the lava layer to break up and slide into the river valley, over 2.8 million years.
