Sitting at anchor, this slightly run down boat waits patiently for its owner.

This thumbnails title is Two Dinghies. Two Dinghies.

Two dinghies huddle close looking almost romantic, perhaps discussing plans to escape their moorings, while the Sea Gulls play and fish in the shallows.

This thumbnails title is Life Goes on.Life Goes on.

Life in the far north is mostly relaxed, there is time to take a moment to glance at the world around, to reconnect with ones world and take stock of your situation.

This thumbnails title is Working Boats.Working Boats.

Two commercial fishing boats docked at Totara North. I often look at small boats like these ones, and think that they would be very nice to go out on, and very durable and safe, but the reality would be probably far from my imaginings, especially if you were working on them.

This thumbnails title is Paihia Beach.Paihia Beach.

A great place to own a yacht or sea worthy vessel of some kind. I would imagine it would get more crowded in the heat of summer, but at this time of year it is a tranquil paradise!

This thumbnails title is Fullers Ferry.Fullers Ferry.

You can't see in this small copy of the picture but it seems like everyone on the boat apart from the captain and the young woman in his glass windowed 'bridge' are looking at me taking a picture of them ;) This is the ferry that's takes you from Paihia to Russell, or vice versa (I am in a similar ferry going the other way).

They look so devoted to each other, the dog and the girl, they are a precious thing indeed those kind of relationships, if only the world could relate like that, but then there would be inevitable squabbles I guess. Interesting Mono sail Catamaran in the background.

This thumbnails title is Nice Play Thing.Nice Play Thing.

There must be miles and miles and miles of coastline around countries that there is no way to see without some form of boat! This is not the best kind of boat for that kind of adventuring I guess, since you have to keep feeding it petrol, but the idea is stirring to me :)

This thumbnails title is The Huka Jets. The Huka Jets.

The Hamilton Jet revolutionised high speed boat travel in shallow water, with no bits dangling down into the water like rudders or propellers the jet boats can happily scrape the bottom of the boat on the river bed and do little to no damage to themselves. Here Huka Jets exhilarate tourists, taking them right into the white water of Huka Falls.

This thumbnails title is Mysterious Ship, Unsettled Sky.Mysterious Ship, Unsettled Sky.

This is the 'Venture' as seen in the motion picture 'King Kong'. It sat at a small wharf near the airport for quite awhile and always attracted my attention with its weathered and aged character, it looked like a wonderful ship, but it was well past its 'use by date'.

This thumbnails title is Fishing Boat Heads Out in the Morning.Fishing Boat Heads Out in the Morning.

Early morning and a lone fishing boat heads out of Wellington harbour by the golden light of sunrise, it was a magical sight. Seen from my back door.

This thumbnails title is Fishing By The Light.Fishing By The Light.

At night the tall structure next to the three boats flashes slowly with a red light, it is to keep larger ships on the far side of the light. I love looking at the this expanse of water to see the patterns and the activities of various sized vessels.

This thumbnails title is Canoes Leaning Against A Wall.Canoes Leaning Against A Wall.

Kind of a classical shot of colourful boats. I'm not sure about the frame I put on this one, it may be too dark, but I do like the colours in this shot.

This thumbnails title is The Albatross Watchers. The Albatross Watchers.

I enjoyed the whole Albatross watching adventure, it was not swamped with touristy people, it had that personal touch to it that made us feel like we were the purpose for the trip, not just our money, and the skipper Gary (in the cap) was knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and polite, all in all I highly recommend the Albatross Encounter :)
