Red sky at night, shepherds delight, red sky in the morning shepherds warning! It is true, the day turned to greyness with slight drizzle, but for half an hour it was very nice :)

This thumbnails title is Lyall Bay Beach.Lyall Bay Beach.

So hard getting things like the waves lining up with stitched pictures like this one, made up of 7 pictures, it covers over 180 degrees. The airport is to the left, and the building on the beach is the surf club. There's people hitting a ball about with a cricket bat, seagulls sitting on the sand, and there's even a plane coming into land :) Oh I nearly forgot the ferry out there on the horizon!

This thumbnails title is Looking South From Mt Ruapehu.Looking South From Mt Ruapehu.

Nice clouds! This is about half way down Mt Ruapehu's access road, the small piles of snow are about the only indication really that we are at any significant altitude.
Mt Ruapehu, Tongariro National Park.

This thumbnails title is View From Paekakariki Hill.View From Paekakariki Hill.

Always a favourite view this one, the road that leads to this lookout point is a windy and fairly narrow one that goes from Paekakariki to the Hutt Valley. We are looking West here, but the left is nearly South and right hand side is North. To the left you can see the South Island faintly on the horizon, the island you can see is Kapiti, and the little town to the right is Paekakariki itself.

The landing place of all that water, I wonder what it looks like down there under all the water?!?

This thumbnails title is Auckland City.Auckland City.

Coming into Auckland from the north you are basically stuck to travelling on motorway if you want to go across the harbour bridge, so when I stopped at a large layby area next to the motorway I was waiting for the visit from a passing police car, but they didn't show up fortunately. Anyway this is the tall bit of the largest city in little old New Zealand.

This thumbnails title is The Main Road. The Main Road.

Rawhiti peninsular, if you could call it that, really a globule sticking out from the base of the considerably larger Brett Peninsular. The kids playing like kids do, what a great playground! Two pictures stuck together making it equivalent to maybe 10mm(16mm)
Hauai Bay, Rawhiti Peninsular, Bay of Islands.

This thumbnails title is The Stone Store. The Stone Store.

New Zealand's earliest stone building to have town planning consent (built in 1932-36), and two neighbouring wooden buildings, the top one is St James Church, and the other being Kemp House, New Zealand's oldest surviving European styled building (built in 1821-22). (Panorama of 3 images)

This thumbnails title is The Western Horizon. The Western Horizon.

The pebbly beach of Putataua Bay, on the other side of the wee peninsular from the camping grounds, nice clouds. This would have been the place to watch last evenings sunset! (Panorama of 2 images)

Looking North to East, it sure gave a great feeling of spaciousness. Nice clouds. (panorama of 4 images)

This thumbnails title is Rolling Grassland.Rolling Grassland.

Once it was covered with wild native bush, and that's great, now it is covered in sown grass gorse and bracken, and that, like this scene looks great to, but too much of one thing is not good for anyone, or anything. Our learning tells us this is so, and if we open our eyes we can see it for ourselves, it is not just empty wisdom. Anything that tells us otherwise is surely greed, we have to be awake to such things if we want to retain any value we have as human beings. (Panorama of 3 images)

This thumbnails title is Cape Maria Van Diemen.Cape Maria Van Diemen.

Cape Maria Van Diemen, where the old lighthouse was built in 1879, however due to difficulties of getting to the light in rougher weather the new light was built on Cape Reinga in 1941. In particular, in 1933 when the assistant keepers wife was swept off the rocks, the radio operator jumped in to the waves to rescue her, and they were both, sadly, drowned.

This thumbnails title is Broadwood General Store.Broadwood General Store.

One of the original 'all-in-one' shopping centres, the Broadwood General Store is a working snippet of yester-year. Inside there are a wealth of nick knacks, but no maps which is what I was looking for at the time.

Leaving Waipoua Forest I spied this idyllic scene and its strange trees growing in old stumps.

This thumbnails title is Te Matua Ngahere, and its Companion Vine.Te Matua Ngahere, and its Companion Vine.

Te Matua Ngahere is impressive enough, but the vine growing right next to it is amazing itself! I have no statistics for this fellow, but it is like no other vine I know off, a proper tree would be happy to have a trunk like this vine has :)

This thumbnails title is At the Foot of a God!At the Foot of a God!

I am very conflicted when I see a tree such as this one. On the one hand I just want to kneel in reverence and on the other hand, I want to weep for its ancestors. The timber industry got started in earnest around 1860, at that time there was 4,000,000 acres of rain forest in the north island, 150 years later there is 18,420 acres!

This thumbnails title is Sunset over the Mud-Flats.Sunset over the Mud-Flats.

I was enchanted by this little place and it blessed me with one of the greatest sunsets I think I have seen. It was not so spectacular, but it was extraordinary.

The sleepy little gathering of houses that is Tapora. It is so quiet here that you can actually hear yourself think! I bet people know their neighbours here to!

This thumbnails title is The Kauri Tree. The Kauri Tree.

This Kauri tree is Huge! Looking at it from afar is very deceptive, but when you slog through the bush, and eventually find it (when your in the bush, even the sky is obscured) it would take 20 people or more linking hands to hug this granddaddy of trees!
